About
Hi, I’m Kate. Welcome to my blog.
I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 2005. After several years of poor health and many hospital visits, I finally succumbed to surgery in mid 2009. I recently adopted a high-raw, vegan lifestyle after extensive research into the best ways to help myself heal and, hopefully, return to full health. (Some of my very early posts mention me consuming some animal products. About a week after starting this blog, I gave them all up! It definitely gave me the push I needed and I now consume a high-raw, 100% Vegan diet.)
Getting Raw chronicles my journey. I’ll share meals and recipes, things I learn, and write about things I try, diet and lifestyle wise, to heal myself to health.
Why Raw?
I’d vaguely heard about the raw food movement, (surely most girls remember it from Sex and the City?) but it wasn’t until I discovered resources like Kimberly Snyder’s blog, Choosing Raw and Kristin’s raw, that I realised what it entailed, and that it could be a solution for me. So I did more research. And with every piece of research I did, the more intrigued and excited I became by the idea of becoming raw.
So I did it.
About Getting Raw
One of the things I love about the raw community is the willingness to share knowledge and experiences. The authors of the above blogs, for example, share their wealth of knowledge daily on the world wide web. The generosity of these women, who live on the opposite side of the world to me, whom I’ve never even met, inspires me every day.
With that in mind, I thought I would share my own journey, in the hope that I can inspire anyone who is struggling with chronic illness or just poor health. Blogging my journey also keeps me accountable for what I’m putting in to my body and lets people see what is really involved in having a healthy lifestyle as well as a real life.
Please comment, share your knowledge, let me know your thoughts and tips, ask me questions, tell me what you want me to write about and subscribe to the blog!

Hi Kate
I dicovered your website after coming across your profile on Twitter (@vingom). It was nice to be friends with you on there.
I got intrigued as I noticed you mentioned on your Twitter profile you being a high raw vegan. Being vegetarian myself and always with a keen interest in food and nutrition, I got attracted to your website.
And I must say I have loved going through it. It’s so very well presented, and with some fabulous pictures.
Though I have not yet read every bit on here, but it seems I will keep coming back to it and keep picking up relevant advice for myself and friends. I have been enlightening myself lately on raw food and have incorporated some of it in my diet, but would love to do more.
I look forward to interacting with you more on this; and also on writing and PR!
Wishes!
Virin
